Most individuals spend the majority of their day at their desk. It is the key area that needs readjusting. You can’t experience ergonomic success without it. First, adjust the desk to your height. It shouldn’t be too tall or short. You’ll also need to adjust the positioning of items on your desk. Everything needs to be within arms reach. This prevents you from straining yourself when you reach for your phone, papers, etc.

Next, adjust the way you sit. Place your feet flat on the ground. Move your legs into a 90-110 degree angle. This keeps your blood flowing properly throughout your body. Notice your posture too. Sit up straight with your back resting against your chair.

Almost all jobs have you working on a computer. It’s often the centerpiece of your desk. Whether you’re on it all day or just occasionally, modify it for your own needs. The computer monitor should be located right in front of you. Avoid placing it too high or low. The perfect height has the top of the monitor match your eye level. Next comes typing etiquette. Keep your wrists straight while you type. Move your shoulders perpendicular with the floor, and your forearms parallel. This prevents overuse of your arm muscles.

Lastly, get up and move every 20-30 minutes. Whether that includes a quick stroll around the office or some basic stretching, it’s a necessary step. This gets the blood moving and your body functioning.
